GOLDEN MONKEY TRACKING

Beyond the gorillas that made Rwanda famous, Wildlife junkies will be thrilled to know they can track another species of primate called Golden Monkey (Cercopithecus Kandti) also known as the “Blue Monkey”, Due to its diet the golden monkey prefers a habitat with abundant fruit and bamboo to the high altitude mountain of the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. You might not get as close to the golden monkeys as you may to the mountain gorillas, but their antics are fun to watch, The golden monkey will often feed near the sleeping area and return to the same sleeping location day after day. There are playful, inquisitive and often spend their time leaping from bamboo branches or frolicking on the forest floor.

the golden monkey is characterized by bright orange-gold body, cheeks and tail, contrasting with its black limbs, crown and tail -end. once quite widespread in can be found in Volcanoes  national park and sizeable troupes of up 30 individuals are indeed, is also IUCN-listed as endangered’ with a similarly restricted range within the Albertine Rift. There  are two habituated troops of golden monkeys in volcanoes national park and the larger troop in Sabyinyo Volcano with 800-100 is the most visited.
