Best Time to Visit Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Like Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest can be visited year-round — gorillas are present every day regardless of weather. However conditions vary significantly by season.

Best months — June to September and December to February Dry seasons bring drier trails, better photography conditions, and more comfortable trekking. June–September is peak season — book permits 6–9 months in advance.

Wet season — March to May and October to November Trails become muddier and more challenging. Lodge rates drop 20–30%. The forest is extraordinarily lush and beautiful. Fewer tourists make for a more exclusive experience.

Getting to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

By Road from Kampala (8–10 hours)

The most common route is Kampala → Mbarara → Kabale → Buhoma or Rushaga. The roads are generally good tarmac as far as Kabale with some rougher sections on the final approach to the park. A 4×4 vehicle is recommended especially in wet season.

By Domestic Flight (Recommended)
